The Harmony Brothers

Peace, Love and Harmony for all occasions in
Austin, Texas
In the summer of 2009, Al Dressen hooked up with an old friend from the eighty’s, Max Nofziger and met guitarist/vocalist Mark Gottschall at a weekly jam session in Austin called the Bakery Jam. They noticed their ability to harmonize well together and they even sounded a little like brothers. The three started rehearsing and soon had a set list of classic rock songs from the 50’s, 60’s and 70’s, with a few others thrown in. Al sings most of the melodies with Mark doing the high harmonies and Max doing the low harmonies. They switch around and Max and Mark also do some of the lead vocals, and Al adds to the harmonies. All three play guitar, but the bulk of the guitar work is on Mark who plays a 12-string like it should be played.

The group considered many names, but it came back to one of the first suggestions, The Harmony Brothers. It just made sense. That is a total description of the group. It’s what they do. If you are attracted to three part harmony on songs from an era of great melodies, the Harmony Brothers deserve your attention. They do songs like Jerry Jeff’s “Mr. Bojangles”, the Beach Boy’s “Surfer Girl” and “Sloop John B”, Dave Clark Five’s “Because”, Crosby, Stills and Nash’s “Our House”, “Four Dead in Ohio”, and “Helplessly Hoping”, Neil Sedaka’s “Breaking Up Is Hard To Do”, the Beatles’ “Nowhere Man”, “P.S. I Love You”, “This Boy”, and “If I Fell”, Peter, Paul, and Mary’s “All My Trials”, Simon and Garfunkel’s “Sound of Silence”, The Band’s “Up On Cripple Creek”, and “The Weight”, the Bee Gees’s “To Love Somebody”, John Sebastian’s “Darlin Be Home Soon”, the Byrds and Dylan’s “Mr. Tambourine Man”, the Sons of the Pioneer’s “Tumbling Tumbleweeds”, and Roy and Dale’s “Happy Trails”, to name a few.

The group plays regularly in the Austin area at places like Patsy’s, Artz Rib House, Evangeline’s Cajun Food, Chuck’s Deli and Coffee House, the Motley Menagerie, and many other central Texas favorites. The trio has performed harmonies on new recordings for other Austin area musicians. They’re a “Blast from the past”, they are “Peace, Love and Harmony”, and they will make you want to smile, clap your hands, sing along, sometimes close your eyes and dream, and maybe even yodel.
